Why it matters
No LOA, no market access
The NRCS and SARS work together at the border. Without a valid LOA, regulated electrical goods do not come in.

Customs will hold it
SARS will not release regulated electrical goods for import without a valid NRCS Letter of Authority.
B.
CE marks are not enough
The NRCS does not accept self-declared marks like CE. Testing must be done to IEC standards by an accredited lab.
C.
You need a local agent
Non-South African companies must apply through a registered South African agent. We are that agent.
D.
Reports expire
For a new application the IEC test report must be less than three years old — we make sure yours qualifies.
E.
It covers many products
Household appliances, IT gear, electronics, power tools, wiring and more fall under NRCS compulsory specs.
F.
Penalties are real
Selling non-compliant regulated goods risks seizure, fines and removal from the market. Do it once, properly.

04What is an NRCS LOA?
A Letter of Authority issued by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications, confirming your product meets South Africa's compulsory safety specs. Importers need it before bringing regulated goods in or selling them.
05Does my product need one?
If it is electrical or electronic and falls under a compulsory specification — appliances, IT equipment, electronics, power tools, cables and more — then yes. Send it to us and we will confirm.
06How long is the LOA valid?
A new LOA is generally valid for three years. Renewals need a test report no older than five years.
